EXPERIENCE
Brian brings a broad range of experience to his position as Windermere agent. After a post-collegiate stint in corporate and retail operations management, banking and securities, Brian followed a high school interest in theatre into an eighteen-year career as a theatrical and music producer. In the process, Brian developed and operated a 1200 seat concert venue and music business office building in Portland, Oregon eventually working throughout the Northwest in production management and logistics for five major promotion companies. A real estate investor for over 20 years, Brian has been tracking property values on Lopez since purchasing 10 acres near Spencer Spit State Park in 1998.
EDUCATION
A graduate of Reed College, Brian did post graduate coursework toward a masters degree in music at Lewis and Clark School of Music for a year and a half before leaving to pursue a brief but successful sojourn as a performing musician with his band, Solstice. In addition, Brian has completed professional training through American University, National Association of Securities Dealers, Combined Insurance Companies of America, Northwest Film and Video Study Center, and Mt. Hood Community College. He has held Oregon and national licenses in securities, insurance, and real estate. Brian also holds a current U.S. Coast Guard Master Mariner's License and is an A.S.A. certified sailing and coastal navigation instructor.
INTERESTS
An avid sailor, Brian is the steward of the 1949, 37' custom wood sloop, Buoyant Girl, having spent 18 months completing an extensive refit and recommissioning in 1991 and '92. Brian has sailed coastwise in various vessels from La Paz, Mexico to the Canadian San Juans and served, in 2001, as director of the 25th annual Wooden Boat Festival in Port Townsend, Washington. Still a student of music, Brian sings, plays guitar and piano, and has recently taken up the violin in support of his daughter's Suzuki studies. Brian also enjoys family time, reading, tap dancing and working on his property here. Also, Brian has lent his time to several community organizations over the years having twice served as President of the Cascade Blues Association as well as working with Oregon Food Bank, KBOO public service radio, First Octave Foundation, Portland Music Association, John Lennon Memorial Foundation, and Portland Opera.
BACKGROUND
An alumnus of seven years at Henderson/Nor'wester camps and an annual Lopez visitor for 40 years, Brian and his family are now building their long sought homestead here and becoming island residents. Brian's wife Magi plans to continue her garden design business here and will retain one or two select clients in Portland. Both are looking forward to raising their daughter, age 3 in 2004, in the beautiful and singular place and community which is Lopez. Brian sees his role as real estate agent as an opportunity to help others pursue their dreams of island life and helping them to a place in this unique community.
